ISLAMABAD: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Tuesday said that the tributaries of river Ravi (Bhed, Deg, Hasri, Bassanter and Bein Nullahs) and river Chenab (Halsi, Daulti, Aik and Palku Nullahs) were likely to attain high flood level during next 24 hours. According to daily FFC report, high to very high peak discharge for short interval was also expected upstream of Mangla Dam Project. The river Indus was flowing in medium flood at Chashma and low flood at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Taunsa and Guddu Barrage, while the river Kabul was at medium flood stage in Warsak-Nowshera reach. The river Swat was also flowing in low flood at Charsadda Road Bridge. Other main rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej were flowing normal. The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla Dams are at elevations of 1537.00 feet and 1212.75 feet respectively, which are 13.00 feet and 29.25 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet. The combined live storage position of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 11.157 MAF as compared to last year's 6.047 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave over Kashmir has moved away eastwards, whereas fresh Westerly Wave is moving over eastern parts of Iran. Seasonal Low lies over Eastern Iran. Moderate to strong moist current from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 5000 feet. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, fairly widespread thunderstorm /rain with isolated heavy falls and very heavy falls at one or two places is expected over Kashmir (upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej), Gujranwala, Lahore and Rawalpindi Divisions during the next 24 hours. Scattered thunderstorm /rain may also occur over Faisalabad and Sargodha Divisions and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, besides, isolated thunderstorm/rain over Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan, Southern Punjab (Bahawalpur Division) and Sindh including upper catchments of River Indus during the same period. Significant rainfall events reported by FFD, Lahore during the past 24 hours include Palku 160 mm, Sialkot (Cantt 131 mm and Airport 109 mm), Islamabad (Shamsabad 85 mm, Airport 60 mm, Zeropoint 48 mm, Saidpur 42 mm, Bokra 33 mm and Golra 09 mm), Kotnaina 82 mm, Kund 79 mm, Alexandra Bridge 66 mm, Kakul 60 mm, Kotli 59 mm, Mangla 29 mm, Zafarwal 25 mm, Dir 17 mm, Daratian 15 mm, Marala (Downstream 13 mm and Upstream 07 mm), Gujrat 11 mm, Shadiwal and Okara 09 mm each, Shakargarh 06 mm, Chattar Kallas and Jhelum 05 mm each.
