Army to be deployed for by-elections in Karachi : ECP


KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to deploy the Pakistan Army at all polling stations in Karachi during the upcoming by-elections on August 22, Geo News reported on Sunday. According to reports, the ECP has sent a letter to the Sindh chief secretary and Sindh home secretary for the army deployment. The election commission has declared 819 polling stations 'sensitive' while 365 have been declared 'most sensitive'. The ECP has called for deployment of troops inside and outside the polling stations. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has announced a holiday on polling day in the 12 districts of the province. According to a notification district offices will remain closed on polling day.
